The Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results released on Wednesday afternoon by Education Cabinet Secretary Professor George Magoha has seen 1,309 students from different parts of the country miss to get their results due to exam irregularities.
However, the number has significantly reduced since over 4,500 cases were reported last year, a clear indication that the government is doing very well in curbing the case.
Magoha attributed the success in curbing cheating to good work done by the teachers.
"The number of cases of irregularities has reduced because as you remember, last year we had 4,519. Our teachers have done a fantastic job. There were no witnessed cheating cases in terms of early exam leakages whatsoever," Magoha said.
The number of cases related to examination irregularities has been reducing since the inception of new reforms by the Ministry of Education after massive leakage of questions and answers was witnessed in 2015.
There was also an improvement in the total performance of the over 699,000 students who sat for the examinations in the months of October and November this year.
Overall, 627 candidates nationally managed to secure grade A, while 5,769 managed to get A-.
125,746 candidates managed the minimum grade C+, which is required for the direct entry into the public universities.
