In a tweet on Friday, Ambassador Yatani said the tough economic conditions globally did not affect the sector negatively.

Yatani made the remarks during the release of the Tourism Sector Performance Report 2019, where he was joined by Tourism CS Najib Balala.

"This morning I was honored to join my colleague Najib Balala as the Chief Guest during the official release of the Tourism Sector Performance Report 2019. I am pleased with the sector’s overall performance noting that 2019 global economic downturn did not affect the sector negatively," Yatani said.

On his part, Balala said the country registered low visitor numbers due to the terrorist attack the country suffered at the DusitD2 Hotel, orchestrated by the Al-Shabaab.

"We have done a lot of campaigns globally which have continued to bear fruit, " he said as quoted by the Star.

"An attack on a hotel and office complex in Nairobi last January, and a general slowdown in the global tourism business, were to blame for the low growth in arrival numbers," he added.
