ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna has called for a speedy probe into Deputy President William Ruto’s assassination claims.
Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV, Sifuna said that elimination of the DP is likely to plunge the nation into chaos.
He said that the country cannot afford to go back to those days when some leaders resolved to take the lives of their competitors to gain political advantage in different races.
“I do not think we have a place for elimination of political competitors through such means. We have a very bad history in this country and we would not want us to go back to the days where physical elimination was an option,” he said.
Sifuna, who has been very vocal on matters of national interest, said that democracy can sometimes make the electorate pick bad leaders but there is a need to tolerate one another.
He urged the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to probe the matter for the sake of peace.
“We know that democracy at its purest means that you can actually elect the devil himself but I have faith in Kenyans to be able to decipher who can and cannot be elected as the President,” he said during the interview.
