Kiambu Woman Rep Gathoni Wamuchomba has rooted for the inclusion of polygamy in the final recommendations by the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) task-force.
Speaking at Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega on Saturday, Wamuchomba said the government should ensure dowry terms are made affordable, to provide men with an opportunity to marry more than one wife.
She urged locals to rally behind the BBI report, adding that it would help improve their lives, and bring national unity.
"Kiambu we are fully behind BBI. You impress me because we want to better our lives with BBI. I as the Kiambu Woman Rep I had said that men with the ability to take care of their families can marry more than one wife. Do you want to marry? In the BBI report, I have said that men who want to marry many women should not be overburdened with dowry payment.
Nyinyi mnataka kuoa? Basi kwa hii BBI mimi nasema wanaume ambao wanataka kuoa wake wengi wapatiwe nafasi wasiitishwe kodi nyingi)" she said in part.
ODM leader Raila Odinga, ANC Leader Musalia Mudavadi and Ford Kenya boss Moses Wetangula were present during the meeting.
Initial reports had indicated that Mudavadi and Wetangula would not attend the meeting.
