Two most wanted Al-Shabaab terrorists were on Wednesday night handed over to Kenya security forces in Garissa, reports have emerged.
In unprecedented act of cooperation, Somalia forces arrested the two before handing them over at Liboi for further investigations.
Mr Farah Ahmed Sanbul alias Faragon and Mihat Daar Khalif have been on the run after committing various offences within Kenya for several months now.
"Our team proceeded to Liboi for patrol where they were handed over suspects by Somali security officers. The suspects had committed several offences before fleeing to Somalia," a report from Liboi police post read.
Somalia security forces did not give further details on the circumstances of the arrest. The two were taken to Garissa for further interrogation.
During the arrest, a pistol, several rounds of ammunition and two AK47 rifle were recovered along with other dangerous weapons from the terrorists.
North Eastern Police Commander Paul Soi said investigations were underway after which the security forces would issue a statement.
“Investigations are ongoing. We shall address the media later,” the police boss said on Thursday.
The progress comes just a fortnight after 11 GSU officers were killed near the area following an IED explosion. Some of the officers are yet to be buried.
Kenya and Somalia have been at loggerheads lately, with the Indian Ocean maritime dispute being the reason behind the row. But the cooperation could revive their partnership again.
