The report on the latest World Airport Traffic shows that the facility can handle 250,000 metric tons of air cargo, which makes it one of the top facilities not only in Africa but also the entire world. The statistics further indicate that the airport managed to handle 342,000 tons of air cargo in 2018.

ACI ranked Rockford Airport, USA, as the fastest growing airport globally after it handled 306,332 tons of air cargo. The data is good news to JKIA's management as it seeks to improve service delivery to clients from different parts of the globe.

The increase in cargo from different continents including Australia, America, Asia and Europe has propelled the airport to greater heights.

“This is what has culminated in JKIA being an emerging force and destination in the air cargo industry,” said KAA in a press statement, as quoted by Daily Nation.

The management has also said the development of modern transit sheds has in some ways propelled the increase in cargo being brought to the airport.

Responding to the award, KAA CEO Jonny Anderson said that it is clear that the efforts to transform the Airport are bearing fruits.
