Her Excellency the First Lady Margaret Kenyatta on Thursday launched the Beyond Zero medical caravan in Kisumu, in the company of her visiting Mozambican counterpart Her Excellency Isaura Nyusi.
The First lady was received by County Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o and his spouse and county First Lady Dorothy Nyong’o.
At the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital, she commissioned a Point of Care Test Machine, the latest technology that will enable babies born HIV positive receive quick and early treatment.
Mama Margaret further led the team in meeting a group of over 60 women suffering from obstetric fistula but had received free treatment courtesy of the caravan.
She stressed on the need for better handling of both women and children, noting that the future of the nation lies largely in their hands.
‘’Women are the center of families and the children of this country are our future,’’ she said.
She as well launched the EMTCT 2018-2022 Kisumu County Business Plan seeking to fast-track and demonstrate the county’s commitment towards combating the HIV and Aids menace as the county seeks to wipe out the virus completely by 2030.
Mama Dorothy thanked the First Lady for allowing the county host the safari, noting that the county is ready to fully participate in the recently launched Universal Healthcare Program.
