Speaking during the launch at the Kilifi County hospital, Governor Amason Kingi said the facility will go a long way in saving many lives by making available a very vital commodity to the Kilifi citizens while at the same time easing patients' financial burden.

Kingi said it is his administration's unwavering commitment to deliver access to high quality medical treatment to the people of Kilifi County.

The governor also commissioned the construction of a High Dependency Unit (HDU) and newborn unit in partnership with the Safaricom Foundation at the Kilifi Referral Hospital.

Kingi said his administration is equipping county hospitals with modern equipment, increasing specialized training of local health workers and promoting access to preventive and beneficial health services for quality healthcare services Countywide.

"We’re equipping our hospitals with modern equipment, increasing specialized training of our health workers and promoting access to preventive and beneficial health services to all as we step up our pursuit for quality healthcare services Countywide."

The move comes after Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho launched a Sh14 million Maternal High Dependency Unit at the Coast Provincial General Hospital (CPGH).

The facility is the first of its kind in County Hospital and the largest of its kind in the whole country.

The centre has an 8-bed capacity fully equipped with ultra-modern equipment and highly trained staff with the capabilities of handling high-risk pregnancies more effectively hence offering expert obstetric and critical care to mothers.
