Deputy President William Ruto summoned Borabu MP Ben Momanyi severally before 2017 polls where he wanted him to play a key role in polls, it has emerged.
At Nyamira on Friday, the Wiper MP recalled how he declined DP's advances despite lucrative offers such us having a big say in government.
"To be honest, DP Ruto looked for me severally in 2017 and asked me to work with Jubilee. He even promised a bigger role for me but I told him that I wasn't ready," he said.
Mr Momanyi was facing Patrick Osero of Jubilee in Borabu. He was Raila Odinga's chief campaigner in the region. He narrowly beat Osero to return to parliament.
But despite snubbing Ruto in 2017, Momanyi expressed desire to work with Ruto in 2022, arguing that the DP has proved to many Kenyans that he deserves the seat.
"We shall walk together this time. When that time comes, we shall not be left behind. We shall form government together," he said, adding that he will back Ruto.
Momanyi added:"When I wanted PSC seat, my NASA team abandoned me. It took the intervention of DP and President Uhuru Kenyatta for me to reach there."
In 2022, Momanyi has emerged as a formidable candidate in the race to succeed Governor John Nyagarama, who is headed for retirement.
