When he died on January, 4, 2015, most Kenyans knew that opposition leader Raila Odinga's eldest son Fidel Odinga would be buried at his dad's home, as is the norm in the Luo community.
Many thought that he would be automatically laid to rest at his father's home in Opoda Farm in Bondo, but that was not the case.
Fidel was later buried on Saturday 10 at his grandfather and the nation's first Vice President Jaramogi Oginga Odinga's Kang'o Ka Jaramogi home in Nyamira, Siaya county, 10 kilometres from Raila's homestead.
This was because Fidel had not officially moved over to his father's home, as that way he would have been buried at the Opoda farm.
According to one of Jaramogi's eldest sons George Ominde, Fidel had not traditionally moved over to his dad's home despite having already established his house in his compound and, therefore, had to be buried at the family's graveyard in Kang'o.
"Fidel had not moved to his new home hence burying his remains there would mean we have thrown him out. That is why we have decided to bury him in the extended family graveyard,” he told the standard three days to the burial.
Fidel's remains were, however, taken to Opoda for viewing day to the burial, before being laid to rest.
The former Premier influenced the speedy process, which saw Fidel buried within a week.
