Residents of Kenyatta Road estate in Juja sub-county have urged elected leaders in the area to install street lights following increased cases of muggings.
According to Nyumba Kumi chairman Andrew Ngure, several robbery cases have been reported in the area recently, including cases of rental houses being broken into during the day when residents are at work.
Speaking during an interview with this writer on Thursday, Ngure said that a group of youth that resurfaces whenever schools reopen is reported to be behind the robbery cases.
He added that despite police officers conducting patrols at night, the gang usually carries out the robberies immediately after the police have left the area.
The Nyumba Kumi chair now wants the government to ensure there are more officers patrolling in the area at night in a bid to curb crime.
Ngure also called upon residents to volunteer any information that may lead to the arrest of the gang to the police, instead of leaving all the work to the officers.
“Let us cooperate with the police and give them information about this group of youth that has been mugging our people. We are the ones suffering and this needs to be solved before it’s too late,” said Ngure.
He revealed that leaders in the area recently donated one street light which was installed in one of the avenues in the area, leaving the second avenue in darkness.
He noted that the thugs have been taking advantage of the dark to mug residents.
Juja OCPD Patrick Manyasi has assured residents of intensified patrols, adding that his officers will arrest the criminals and arraign them in court for action to be taken against them.
