Gor Mahia once again reigned supreme in the 'Mashemeji Derby', beating their archrivals AFC Leopards 2-0 at the Moi Kasarani Stadium.
The champions, playing without the injured Dennis Oliech, were the better side through the match and took the lead early on in the first half.
Leopards will have to blame its leaky defense, more so goalkeeper Eric Ndayishimiye, who allowed easy goals from Kenneth Muguna on the 15th minute and Francis Kahata's 64th-minute free kick.
After a poor start to the season, Muguna opened the scoring, capitalising on a defensive lapse to drive a low shot that slipped past Ndayishimiye's hands into the net.
Muguna should have added a second before the break, only for his screamer to hit the crossbar.
Seeing their chances of going past the Gor defense becoming slimmer by the minute, Leopards slowed their pace and opted to hit Gor on the counterattack.
On resumption of the second half, Gor picked from where they had left, dictating things as Leopards chased shadows.
Kahata compounded Leopards' woes with a sublime free kick that curled into the visitors' net for a second goal, which proved the last hit that broke the Leopards' back.
Later on, talisman Tusiyenge thought he had wrapped up the victory in style, but his goal was ruled for an offside.
The win lifts Gor to second on the table with 22 points, level with the Bandari and 3 shy of leaders Mathare United, but Gor have a match to spare.
Leopards, on the other hand, remain rooted in 5th place with 10 points after succumbing to 4th defeat in a row.
Leopards' coach Andre Casa Mbungo urged fans to be patient and noted that his players need time to gel.
"Within no time the fans will enjoy. We didn't have enough time to train. Poor positioning and defending set pieces caused us and we will work on them," said Mbungo.
