So sensitive are their statement, that it comes amid ongoing campaigns to have the constitution amended to change governance system.

Led by Murang'a Senator Irungu Kang'ata, the leaders seemed to suggest that president Uhuru Kenyatta remains in politics for a little while.

"Uhuru is still the Mt. Kenya kingpin. He is too young to retire any soon," Kang'ata said, raising controversy across the country.

Currently, the MPs are holding their Parliamentary Group meeting in  Naivasha where Uhuru succession is expected to dominate.

A couple of weeks ago, Simba Arati, the Dagoretti North MP and a close ally of Raila Odinga, said Mr. Kenyatta and Odinga will be in the government after 2022 polls.

"Be prepared for Raila as president and Uhuru as his Prime Minister. Just get used to it whether you like it or not," he noted.

But in an interview with the BBC when he visited US in August, Uhuru dismissed claims that he will push for constitutional amendment to extend his term.

"I am not interested in that. We must respect our institutions. Leaders should always adhere to the law," he said.
