Majority leader Aden Duale is trending across various social media platforms under the hashtag #MasaibuCampus.
Students across the Kenyan universities and colleges are blaming the legislator over a bill he proposed to allow university administrations to pick and front favorite student leaders.
Even as the campus electioneering period across institutions of higher education nears, a section of disheartened campus students has criticised the Garissa Township legislator for introducing the 'prefect system' in autonomous educational institutions that are supposed to nurture independent leaders.
For instance, a netizen Patrick Mukuha @mukuha_g blamed Duale for re-introducing the prefect system in the Univesity where administrations pick and front their favorite candidates.
"#MasaibuCampusAden Duale introduced prefect system in University. The best administration puppet wins the prefect," posted @mukuha_g https://twitter.com/mukuha_g/status/1054347243602493440
Another twitter user by the name Asomah @asoma_arthur1 who referred Duale as Ruto's spanner boy blasted him for fronting the bill that saw college administrators pick leaders on behalf of students.
"Since Ruto Spanner Boy @AdenDuale introduced new policies in university election system....nowadays the campus administration chooses student leaders on behalf of students#MasaibuCampus" Asomah @asoma_arthur1 posted. https://twitter.com/asoma_arthur1/status/1054345815727194112
As a result of the new system, a number of universities have witnessed violent student protests over what is alleged to be poor administration.
