The Rift Valley politics have over the time been a hard nut to crack for many politicians.
But Deputy President William Ruto is undoubtedly the political kingpin of the region since he enjoys pregnant support across among the electorate.
My point of contention in this piece is the relationship between DP Ruto and Baringo senator Gideon Moi.
Despite both of them commanding notable influence, they are yet to openly announce that they are working together.
There have been a lot of efforts to unite the two leaders prior to the 2022 polls but they have all been in vain.
The reason could be because all of them have presidential ambitions and none is ready to sacrifice his ambitions to support the other.
DP Ruto’s camp is busy establishing political rapport across the country ahead of 2022 and Gideon Moi’s camp is also said to be secretly strategizing how to launch a strong presidential campaign.
The two leaders share different political ideologies and strategies thus it has been difficult for them to work together.
Despite the elders from the DP Ruto’s home turf trying to bring him close with senator Moi, it has been a hard job for them due to the hardstand from both sides.
Another factor is Gideon-Raila Odinga friendship.
Since Raila held private talks with senator Moi, the DP’s camp has become jittery of the two leaders.
Raila is the DP’s strongest political nemesis and anyone associating closely with the ODM leader becomes an adversary of the DP’s camp.
So, as the political season unfolds, only time will tell whether DP Ruto will unite with the son of the former head of state ahead of the 2022 race to the state house.
