The killer lion which had been terrorizing residents of Moiben sub-county in Uasin Gishu County has been captured by Kenya Wild Life Service (KWS) in Kruger farm in the sub-county after hunting it for one month.
The animal's presence raised an alarm after three livestock were found dead confirming earlier allegations by residents that it had been spotted at Chepkoilel village in Uasin Gishu county.
According to the KWS warden John Ngalia, it took a team of 17 KWS officers and police officers three weeks to trace and ground the animal.
He claimed that the geographical bushy terrain of the area adversely hindered their operation.
“We attempted to use chopper but it could not work, thus the animal entered the Kruger farm where it was much safer and easier to track,” said Mr Ngalia.
He said that they laid five traps having life baits and eventually the animal was netted in the wake of Tuesday morning.
“We are now deliberating on where to relocate the animal, we might decide to take to national reserve in Nakuru or Laikipia,” he said.
Mr Ngalia who supervised the whole exercise ascertained to the local farmers that their livestock which was preyed on by the animal will be compensated without giving a specific time.
Since when the animal ventured the area residents had been living in fear of their lives many opt to remain indoors at night, however, he assured the residents it was safe as the animal had now been captured.
“I ascertain the locals that the area is safe and free from any dangers of the lion, they should continue with their festivities,” added Mr Ngalia.
