Embattled Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu is set to be released on Thursday according to Youth Affairs, Sports and Communication CEC Karungo Thang'wa.
Waititu has already spent two nights at Industrial Area Remand Prison after he failed to raise Sh15 million cash bail or a bond of Sh30 million that he was slapped with by Anti-Corruption Court Magistrate Lawrence Mugambi on Tuesday.
Thang'wa visited his boss at the dreaded remand prison on Wednesday evening and reported he found the Governor interacting' with other remandees, some who hail from his county.
In a tweet, the youngest County Executive Committee (CEC) member said Waititu's first assignment upon release will be to hold a cabinet meeting and also pay cash bail for some remandees he met while in custody.
"Visited Kiambu Gov. H.E BabaYao at Industrial Area Prison this evening. It's exciting to see my Governor doing well and interacting with prisoners, including some who are from Kiambu County. He'll be released tomorrow. Expect a cabinet sitting soon thereafter," Thang'wa posted.
"He has promised to pay bail for those that he shared a cell with once he is out. Some couldn’t raise 5k, 10k etc thus spending months at the prison," added the former vernacular radio presenter.
Waititu was barred by the court from accessing his office until the Sh588 million corruption case is concluded.
Various lawyers have given contradicting interpretations of the ruling, some arguing he can operate from anywhere apart from his offices at the county headquarters in Kiambu.
Others say he is a suspended Governor, and, therefore, can't be in charge of county operations.
