Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi now says that he will not be making any major declaration about his 2022 presidential bid any time soon.
The former Vice President has repeatedly hinted that he will be among the politicians who will be in the race to succeed the outgoing President Uhuru Kenyatta in the much-awaited race.
But speaking on Saturday, he noted that details about who he will be working with or how he will be approaching the race will only be made public at the right time; in 2022.
In an exclusive interview with Citizen TV at his home in Sabatia, Vihiga county, the former Deputy Prime Minister said that for now, the country needs to focus on service to the citizen.
"The time to give the direction and sacrifice will be in 2022. In between let us direct our strengths towards the citizens (Wakati wa kupeana hiyo mwelekeo, wakati wa kujitolea mhanga ni 2022. Hapa katikati nguvu zetu zilenge mwananchi)," said the leader.
Mudavadi expressed concerns about the state of the national poll agency, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
He noted that the body, which has only three commissioners left, is not fit to hold the polls, wondering why there seems to be no hurry to enforce reforms ahead of the polls.
"We are entering into the second half of our election cycle and the institution that is supposed to ensure a free and fair election remains as it was. For who are we reserving it?" he wondered.
The Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report, in its list of constitutional amendment proposals, suggests an overhaul of the Wafula Chebukati-led commission before 2022.
