Former presidential candidate Mohammed Abduba Dida has scoffed at recommendations by allies of Deputy President William Ruto on the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).
Popularly known as 'Tanga Tanga', DP allies met on Sunday and Monday at the Lake Naivasha Resort, where they agreed to support BBI and also came up with some proposals which they said should be included in the final BBI report.
Dida rubbished the meeting saying the politicians came up with 'idiotic' recommendations, which he claimed were an 'embarrassment' to the ruling party and President Uhuru Kenyatta, who is Jubilee Party leader.
He referred to the move by Jubilee Secretary General Raphael Tuju to disown the Naivasha retreat which he said was not a party Parliamentary Group (PG) meeting.
"Tanga Tanga top brains held a meeting today (Monday) and came up with some of the most idiotic recommendations l have ever seen! The Jubilee Party and the President have been forced to distance themselves from the embarrassment. What was that about?" Dida posted on Twitter.
Among the proposals the DP camp made is that 5 per cent of national revenue should be set aside to finance Guaranteed Minimum Return (GMR) to all farmers.
They also recommended that 5 per cent of national revenue be allocated to pay a stipend for a maximum of five years to young graduands leaving tertiary institutions including TVETs and universities.
"To support economic growth and SMEs, which account for 60% of employment, 5% of national revenue be allocated to give interest free loans to start ups, micro and small enterprises including kiosks, boda boda, and small scale traders," read part of the statement of the resolutions, as posted on Facebook by Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen.
