Three people have lost their lives while several others sustained serious injuries after their vehicle was involved in an accident along Machakos-Kitui highway.
The accident took place near Wamunyu shopping centre in Mwala, of Machakos.
The morning accident was confirmed by Mwala sub-county Police Commander Ronald Kirui.
He told the press that the accident happened at around 7.55 am on Saturday morning.
He added that the accident involved a 14-seater matatu belonging to KINATHI Sacco which rolled several times after a tyre burst.
The police boss noted that that the driver of the vehicle which was heading to Machakos from Kitui was unable to control it after the tyre burst.
"There was a fatal accident a few meters from Wamunyu market involving a 14-seater matatu. The vehicle heading to Machakos from Kitui had a tyre burst thus rolling several times," said Kirui.
"Two people died on the spot while another one died while receiving treatment at Masii Level Three hospital," he added.
He said that those injured were rushed to various hospitals in the area to receive treatment while bodies of those who died were taken to Machakos Level Five Hospital.
By the time of publishing, the vehicle had not been towed from the scene.
