Garissa county government has issued a stern warning to staff who abscond their duties.

County Secretary Ali Abdi says that it is not going to be business as usual for employees who abscond or neglect their duties.

The county official stated that staff who abscond or lazy in their duties will be sacked immediately.

Speaking to journalists at the county offices in Garissa on Monday, he said that absconding duty by some staff is among major causes of delay in service delivery.

He revealed that the county will soon introduce performance contracting to tame lazy workers.

"Moving forward and especially in 2019 we are going to be strict and act tough on lazy employees," he said.

He said that Garissa residents deserve quality service delivery.

The County Secretary urged employees to purpose to do things differently in 2019.

He said that the county will reward best performing employees.

He assured the residents of the county's commitment to deliver quality services.

Governor Ali Korane has several times assured residents of his determination to guarantee service delivery.

The governor has been calling on Garissa residents to support his administration.

Korane was elected governor in 2017 general taking over from Nathif Jama.
