Residents of Rigena area in Kenyenya, Kisii County are mourning the death of a man who died after he was electrocuted.
The incident happened on Tuesday.
Witnesses said the deceased, Ronald Nyagaka a mason by profession, met his death at a building where he was working.
"Nyagaka touched electricity wires which were hanging at a house whose construction is ongoing thinking electricity was disconnected when he was electrocuted," said a witness, Ivy Nyaboke.
Nyaboke said there was blackout thereafter in the area after the electrocution.
"He died on the spot as his colleagues at the construction site scampered for their safety following the loud bang caused by the electricity fault which occurred when he touched the wires," she stated.
Area police boss Isaac Thuranira said the body of the deceased was moved to Kenyenya Sub-County Hospital morgue.
"Our officers were alerted and rushed to the scene only to find the body of Nyagaka lying down. He could not survive the electrocution," said the police boss.
He assured that he will engage Kenya power to ensure such an incidence does not happen again.
Thuranira appealed to locals to be careful when dealing with power cables.
