President Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday commissioned 151 officer cadets trained at the Kenya Military Academy (KMA), Lanet Nakuru while maintaining that Kenya will remain part of AMISOM.
Speaking during the ceremony that was attended by among others CSs Rachael Omamo (Defense), Dr.Fred Matiang’i (Interior) and Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui, President Kenyatta called on the officers to maintain high standards of discipline in their service to the nation.
While noting that security of the nation was paramount, the head of state called on every Kenyan to play their role in safeguarding the nation.
“Security of the land cannot be left to the military alone but every Kenyan must play a role in safeguarding our motherland,” he said.
The head of state commended the Kenya Military Academy for ensuring quality junior disciplined military leaders. He called on the officers who have acquired professional skills from the academy to make sure they use the same to serve the nation.
“I must commend the Kenya Military Academy for the continued production of quality junior disciplined military leaders. As you join the Kenya Defense Forces you have a task to serve the nation with discipline but above all courage,” said President Kenyatta.
The Head of state also revealing that the training of KDF has been revamped since Kenya’s involvement in the AMISOM.
He maintained that Kenya will continue to be part of AMISOM until a time when the objective shall be achieved.
“I am equally proud to send you out and know that you are joining the Kenya Defense forces at a defining moment. Currently the training of KDF is informed by the current lessons learned from our involvement in the AMISOM,” he said.
During the ceremony, officers who excelled in various areas during their three years training were also awarded.
The areas included professional studies, character development and academic studies.
The Cadets are the 6th group under Bsc. Military and Security Studies offered by Kenyatta University and the Ministry of Defense. They are drawn from the Kenya Army, Kenya Navy and the Kenya Air force.
The military science degrees will be conferred to the graduands in December this year at Kenyatta University.
