Majority Leader Aden Duale has dismissed rift within Jubilee Party arguing that President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto have been meeting often.
A section of MPs allied to Dr Ruto have been calling for a PG to discuss unity within the party with some raising fears of possible fallout.
“Unlike during Jubilee’s first term between 2013 and 2017 when we could be called for PGs four times a year, none has been convened two years down the line in the Second Term,” said Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi.
”Unity in the party is crucial, hence the need for a meeting to help end political squabbles that led to creation of Tangatanga and Kieleweke,” said Maragua MP Mary Waithira.
But Duale on Thursday said Uhuru and Ruto consult on a daily basis, adding that the two met last on Wednesday. He said the PG can only be held with instructions from Uhuru.
“We will convene a meeting if I receive the party leader’s instructions. We have no crisis at the moment. There is no urgency,” Duale said.
According to Duale, the president and his deputy consult everyday.“I was in a meeting on Wednesday with them,” he said.
On Friday, Uhuru and Ruto will share podium in Eldoret where they will be Commissioning Rivertex industry. It will be the first meeting in Rift Valley between the two since November last year.
