The country is currently looking at possible changes under the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI), which was founded by President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga in 2018.

The former Vice President on Monday noted that the entire debate has to be about the country and not personalities if it is to serve its intended purpose which is bettering the lives of Kenyans.

He warned that the moment the issue turns into a discussion about personalities and ethnic groupings, then Kenyans risk not benefitting.

"If the perception is that we are talking about personalities, ethnic grouping, then we are diverting attention from what may be important in the BBI," he said on Citizen TV's Townhall.

He added that there is need for the push to cease being about the expansion of the Government and allocation of seats and be about improving the state of affairs in the country.

Mudavadi further said that it's upon the political class and the media to ensure that the goal of the BBI is properly understood, which according to him is not the case currently.

He pointed out that instead, the two have brought out the push as a push aimed at benefitting specific individuals.

"For as long as the perception is that we are beginning to talk about positions and we are spending all the time, the headlines every other day are about individuals and perhaps even the salaries that they are going to earn, then we are misleading the public again," he added.
