The Kenyan Defense Forces (KDF) and Rural Border Patrol Unit (RBPU) have been deployed on the border of Kenya and Ethiopia after two Kenyans were killed during a heavy fire exchange between Ethiopian forces and Oromo Liberation Front (OLF) militia.
Residents who were near the village of Moyale were forced to flee their home as the gunfire intensified over the weekend.
Reports from NTV indicate that gunshots were heard up to Sunday night.
The Ethiopian forces are reported to have suffered casualties during the confrontation with the OLF militia at the border.
Villagers revealed to NTV that the Ethiopian army raided and burnt down villages.
Five Kenyan youths were arrested but later on released.
Kenyan authorities have heavily condemned the incident and called for diplomatic talks between the two countries as this is not the first time that the Ethiopian army has crossed into Kenya.
"We request to be respected as Kenya. If there is anything that the Ethiopians see is not right, they should follow the protocol so that we can live in peace. (Tungeomba pia tuheshimiwe kama Kenya. Tuheshimiwe kama Kenya, tupatiwe heshima yetu. Kama iko kitu ambayo watu wa Ethiopia wanona si mzuri wafuate ile protocal so that tukae na amani na jirani.)," Marsabit County Police Commander Ambrose Steve Oloo told NTV.
The Ethiopian government has in the past been accused of contributing to the increased insecurity at the border this year.
