The clashes erupted on Saturday in Modogshe along the Garissa-Isiolo border over watering points and grazing land between Aulian and Borana clans.

The fight later escalated for the better part of Sunday and Monday, with residents taking to the roads to protest the failure of local police to protect them and their livestock from aggression by rival communities.

Even as a contingent of anti-riot police was marshalled to quell the violent protests, rowdy youths engaged them in running battles.

Several demonstrators have since been arrested.

The inter-clan aggression between the warring Aulian and Borana communities living along the Garissa-Isiolo border has remained a perennial problem, especially during dry seasons.

The warring communities are pointing fingers at each other, accusing each other of invading their territorial borders without approval.

Modogashe residents are now calling on the government to intervene and bring the feuds to an end to avert more deaths.

Amid the calls, it is estimated that millions of property have gone up in flames.
