A Boda boda rider is nursing gunshot injuries in hospital after police officers in Kenyenya shot and injured him on Monday night.
It is alleged that the victim Pius Nyakundi was returning home from Kenyenya market at 9 pm when police officers tried to stop him in vain.
Speaking from his hospital bed, Mr. Nyakundi said armed police officers asked him to stop but, due to darkness, he sped off in fear of his life.
"I defied orders to when one of the officers fired a bullet at me," he said.
A local James Matundura said the rider screamed for help from members of the public.
"The bullet hit him on the left thigh. His loud screams attracted the public who rushed to the scene and rushed him to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital for treatment," said Matundura.
Area police boss Isaac Thuranira said investigations are ongoing to establish what made the officer to shot the rider.
"I detailed report will be given once investigation over the matter is done. Members of the public are urged to remain calm," said the police boss.
