The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission has directed for the suspension of seven officials of Migori County who are facing graft charges.
The commission has since written to the county Public Service Board to have the group discharged from duty pending prosecution.
Speaking to Citizen Digital on Tuesday, the board Chairperson Peterlis Nyatunga confirmed the request from the anti-graft watchdog, but refused to name the persons the commission wants discharged.
This comes amid an ongoing probe on 11 county assembly officials who are facing charges of public funds embezzlement, through irregular procurement of furniture for the Governor’s official residence four years ago.
They are Francisca Anyango, Collins Bala, Tom Kwasi, Charles Wambora, Joshua Opondo, Lazarus Ogutu, Eliakim Odari, Jackline Magero, Martin Wadambwa, Dan Odhiambo and James Amenya.
The team appeared before Justice Richard Odenyo on August 30, 2018 to face the charges, but pleaded innocent and are out on Sh300, 000 bond each.
They were charged on grounds of contravening the section 27 (3) of the Public Procurement and Disposal Act 2005 and Regulation 10(2) of Public Procurement and Disposal Regulation 2006 before awarding the tender to Aryan Limited.
