"Ever since I was a little boy I wanted to be a barber. After I cleared my secondary education in 2012, I enrolled in a local college for a barber course," he said.

After completion of the six months course, Matano was employed by a family friend in his 'kinyozi' located in Shelly where he worked for three years. In 2016, he had managed to save enough money that enabled him to start his own shop in Mrima.

"Business was not good at first. I had little to no customers since it was a new area and the residents were not familiar to me. I operated at a loss for six months and I finally closed down the shop," he narrated.

Matano then decided to do odd jobs for the rest of the year. Early 2017, he gave his idea another try this time at the Ferry shopping centre. This round, business was booming and by the end of the year, he had an employee.

"In a day, I pocket Sh2,000 after deducting my daily expenditure and paying my helper his commission. I start my day at 7am and close the shop at around nine o'clock at night. I am looking forward to expanding my business and start offering services to individuals with dreadlocks," he continued.
