Baringo Senator Gideon Moi is one of the people conferred with Chief of Order of the Burning Spear by President Uhuru Kenyatta ahead of Madaraka Day celebrations on Saturday.

The Order of Burning Spear award is the second highest honour medal that can be awarded by the President of Kenya after Order of Golden Heart.

On his Facebook page, the Baringo see lauded President Uhuru Kenyatta for recognizing his diligence in parliamentary services and philanthropic work.

"I am delighted today for having been conferred the Chief of the Order of the Burning Spear Award insignia at the Parliament of Kenya. I am grateful to The President and the entire Leadership of the Parliament for the recognition of my legislative and philanthropic work. God Bless Kenya," Moi wrote on Facebook.

President Uhuru Kenyatta will formally meet all recipients of various medals which are awarded during national holidays on Saturday after the Narok function.

Senator Moi, who is serving his third term in parliament, has already declared interest in succeeding President Uhuru Kenyatta whose term ends in 2022.

“I don't understand why some people think I am a novice in politics. I have come of age and am equal to the task, so I will vie for the presidency. Some people started calling me names and trying to discourage me before I even announced my ambition,” said Mr Moi in a past function as quoted by the Nation.

He is embroiled in supremacy battles with Deputy President William Ruto over the control of the larger Rift Valley. The two rarely see each other eye to eye.
