Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen has hinted on why the opposition party ODM plans to expel some leaders.
According to Murkomen, ODM is worried of an impending mass walk-out by leaders from the political outfit and has thought wise to expel those it feels the plan to decamp ahead of 2022. This, he claims is meant to threaten leaders who have similar plans so that they remain in ODM.
Murkomen made the remark hours after ODM announced that its National Executive Council had endorsed the expulsion of MPs Aisha Jumwa (Malindi) and her Msambweni counterpart Suleiman Dori over their close relationship with Deputy President William Ruto. Among those in the list of leaders likely to be expelled include seven MCAs- six from Homa Bay and one from Busia.
"I will tell you the story of Homa Bay MCAs some day. For now, the only reason why ODM is barbarically threatening expulsions is not so much to punish Jumwa and Dori but rather to forestall impending exodus. Someone should tell them that," the Senate Majority Leader said in a tweet on Friday.
Jumwa, Dori and the seven MCAs had earlier been summoned before the ODM disciplinary committee to explain their association with Ruto as well as to highlight what the party deems disrespect for party leader Raila Odinga. But it seems their explanations were not convincing to block their impending exit.
In August last year, both Jumwa and Dori said they would not leave ODM as they were life members of Kenya's largest opposition party.
