A Mandera Court on Tuesday sentenced a Ugandan National to 30 years in prison over terror links. The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions confirmed that the accused, Abdu Rashid Ssekajigo Alias Sheikh Ibrahim was found guilty of the charges levelled against him. Ibrahim is believed to be among the members of a terror group that has been masterminding attacks in different parts of the nation.
The man appeared before the Mandera High Court before he was handed the sentence. He was charged with possessing terror materials. The court also charged him over the recruitment of two Congolese nationals into the terrorist group.
"Mandera court sentences Ugandan national Abdu Rashid Ssekajigo Alias Sheikh Ibrahim to a total of 30 years imprisonment for being a member of the terrorist group, possessing terrorist materials & recruiting 2 Congolese nationals into a terrorist group," DPP tweeted.
The sentence comes two days after the Anti Terror Police Unit officers arrested four suspects for allegedly spying the military airbases in Laikipia and Nairobi.
Nairobi police boss Philip Ndolo said that the police are on high alert following increased cases of terror attacks in the recent past.
On his part, Rift Valley Regional Police Marcus Ocholla boss said that the suspects wanted to access the airbases but they were found before they executed their mission.
