Residents of Rigena-ria-Thomas in Kenyenya, Kisii County are yet to come to terms following the death of a primary school teacher who hanged himself on Tuesday night inside a rental house.
Area assistant chief Zablon Okori said that the deceased Abel Obutu who hails from Nyamira County was a teacher at a local primary school.
"Obutu returned home from school, took supper with his son he has been living with before he proceeded into the bedroom where his body was found hanging from the roof on Wednesday morning by his son who went to wake him up," said the chief.
The administrator stated that the deceased colleagues said he did not have any signs of stress and his decision to hang self is shocking.
He said he notified police officers from Kenyenya who took the body to Kisii Teaching and Referral hospital morgue.
Kisii police commander Martin Kibet regretted increased cases of suicide and urged members of the public to stop being quick to end their lives.
"I wish to encourage residents to seek guidance from church members and elders whenever they are faced with challenges instead of resolving to terminate their lives. There is need for public forums to be organized to motivate residents for the sake of curbing deaths resulting from suicide," said the commander.
