Controversy Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu has yet again launched a scathing attack on Deputy President William Ruto, accusing him of spearheading premature campaigns.
Dr Ruto is keen to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta and has been traversing the country for the last couple of months in what critics believe is early campaigns.
Speaking at his Nyeri backyard on Monday, Ngunjiri vowed to thwart campaigns in his constituency should people come to advocate for 2022.
While indirectly referring to Dr Ruto, Ngunjiri insisted that President Uhuru Kenyatta is still in charge for three years, adding that he will not allow politicians to disrespect him.
“Stop imagining that you can come from outside and start intimidating us. If you come to do 2022 politics here, we have the right to tell you on your face that we do not want early politicking. We shall not be violent but we will exercise our right of expression and tell you that you are doing the wrong thing,” he said.
“Those who want to engage in early politics should visit the other 289 constituencies and campaign there. I can’t come here and say I won’t do campaigns but the people I have come with spend 30 minutes or an hour campaigning. We are not fools.”
President Uhuru Kenyatta has been warning Jubilee leaders against early campaigns. Recently, he threatened MPs campaigning from his backyard.
Last week, a meeting organised by women leaders allied to Ruto was disrupted in Nyeri, with a number of them pointing accusing fingers to Mr Wambugu.
