A team of legislators allied to Deputy President William Ruto have gone slow in their joint campaigns across Kisii and Nyamira Counties in recent weeks.
In recent months, the team has been holding rallies to counter another team allied to Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i, who is a close ally of both President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga.
While Tanga Tanga team's activities have literally been grounded, Matiang'i's team seems consistent, holding joint rallies that have seen politicians attend.
On Sunday, team Matiang'i pitched tent at Borabu constituency, where they were hosted by MP Ben Momanyi. Senator Okong'o Mogeni and Woman Representative Jerusha Momanyi led the team.
But for Tanga Tanga, members confined themselves to their respective constituencies, with non holding a major rally.
"At times you have to take a break and look at the trend. You can't do same thing all the time. A break is quite necessary," said West Mugirango MP Vincent Kemosi.
However, a source close to the team's activities claimed that those in the camp fear that going against Dr Fred Matiang'i in the region will be catastrophic.
"They have realised that going against Matiang'i will prove hard for them. Some are considering decamping. Seems things ain't easy," he claimed.
North Mugirango MP Joash Nyamoko and Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Maangi have been leading the campaigns of Tanga Tanga.
Recently, Mrs Momanyi said that her decision to quit Tanga Tanga was informed by intelligence from her ground team.
