The trio aged 11, 7, and 4 died when their house in Kodero village, Uriri sub-county, caught fire while they were asleep.

According to West Kanyamkago Location Chief John Ojwang', the fire broke out at around 10:00 pm.

He added that villagers' attempts to put off the fire whose cause is yet to be established were futile, reports the Citizen Digital.

He termed the incident as unfortunate, adding that the children's attempts to save themselves might have been thwarted as the door leading to the house was locked from outside.

The three who have been living with their father after their mother left were all alone at home at the time.

The administrator further cautioned parents against leaving children alone at home to avoid such occurrences.

The bodies are being preserved at the Migori Level Four Hospital mortuary.
