The region had promised to reciprocate Ruto’s support in 2022 by backing Ruto.

However, an artist from the region rushed to the studio and released a song telling off the Rift Valley region over any political debt.

The song said Mt Kenya owes Deputy President nothing.

Rift Valley leaders said the song is in bad taste and borders on ethnic hatred.

Speaking on Sunday, Ruto said there should be no debate on debts because no one owes the other.

“I know there has been a debate about who owes who what. But I want to remind leaders that in Romans 13:8, it says that owe no man nothing except the debt of love for one another,” Ruto said.

He added: “No person or community in Kenya owes anybody anything including myself, the only thing we owe ourselves is the debt of love.” Ruto said.
