Today marks five years since the deadly Westgate Mall attack by suspected terrorists that left 71 people dead.

The terrorists stormed the Mall located in Nairobi’s Westlands and indiscriminately shot and killed people while holding others hostage.

It took multi-agency security personnel three days to get hold of the suspects who later blew themselves to death.

The terror incident caught the attention of the world with leaders across the globe condemning it.

The incident also made the country to take more precaution measures as the terror groups launched other attacks in some parts of the country especially Garissa.

Among the people who were trapped in the Westgate Mall during the attack was the Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji who was then working as an undercover intelligent officer.

The now DPP is said to have alerted his bother Abdul Haji through a text message telling him that the mall had been attacked by terrorists and he should pray for him.

Abdul says that he received his brother’s message while in Yaya Center and quickly drove to the Mall to rescue his brother and other people who were trapped inside.

Abdul Haji arrived on time and managed to rescue several people including his brother Noordin Haji.

Abdul who is a licensed gun holder said that he feared for his brother’s life.

“I drove at supersonic speed to Westgate after getting a distress text message from brother and the first person I looked for even as the gun battles from terrorists rented the air was him (Noordin Haji),” Abdul Haji said in an interview with journalists.

Abdul Haji received praise from Kenyans for his courageous actions and his pictures taken while rescuing distressed Kenyans and foreigners at the Westgate Mall have been shared worldwide.
