Baringo Senator Gideon Moi on Saturday received a major boost after a section of leaders drawn from Tharaka Nithi county endorsed his 2022 presidential bid.
Gideon has repeatedly announced his ambitions for the top seat and on Saturday met a section of ward representatives from Tharaka Nithi.
12 out of the 15 Members of County Assembly (MCAs) drawn from the ruling Jubilee and Narc-Kenya attended the meeting at a Nairobi hotel, where they pledged support for him.
Led by Tharaka Nithi County Assembly Minority Leader Nyaga Muisraeli, the group which also included a number of independent MCAs termed Gideon the best for the slot.
“We met with Mr Gideon Moi because we have decided that he will be our presidential flag bearer in 2022,” Nyaga is quoted by the Nation.
They based their support for him on the achievements of his father and former President Daniel Moi.
"Our association with the Moi family did not start yesterday. It started with his father who the people of Tharaka-Nithi will forever be indebted to as he gave them a district that gave birth to Tharaka-Nithi County,” he is further quoted.
The team also advised Moi to officiate his bid and begin his campaigns in the Mount Kenya region.
