One person was on Sunday evening arrested by police officers in Nakuru and his truck seized over illegal logging.
Kenya Forest Service (KFS) officers and the police conducted the operation targeting illegal traders in the county.
Deputy Chief Conservator of Forests in charge of security and protection Alex Lemarkoko said during the operation, they arrested a driver who was transporting cedar and Elgon teak poles.
Lemarkoko said they believe the driver who is in police custody is part of a syndicate behind illegal logging and charcoal burning in the region.
He said the syndicate has been targeting indigenous trees in sections of Mau Forest complex leading to the destruction of the environment.
The KFS officer revealed that the driver was arrested along the Njoro-Mauche road heading to Nakuru town ferrying the poles worth Sh500,000.
He added that investigations are underway and the suspect will be arraigned in court.
“Our officers acting on a tip-off from the public moved swiftly and also managed to arrest the driver. The driver is being held at the Nakuru Central Police station and is being interrogated,” said Lemarkoko as quoted by Daily Nation.
