Arrangements are in place in ODM leader Raila Odinga's Nyanza backyard ahead of an expected alliance between him and President Uhuru Kenyatta, it has emerged.
Consequently, area leaders are already planning a series of rallies to welcome a union thought to be looming, thanks to their March 9, 2018 handshake.
According to reports by the Standard, the rallies are also aimed at preparing the locals for a possible referendum soon, with the former Prime Minister expected to preside over the second rally in Nyatike, Migori county this Friday.
Another rally will be held in Homa Bay on Saturday, in honour of the Raila-Uhuru founded Building Bridges Initiative (BBI), with many more to follow.
Some of which will be graced by leaders from Uhuru's Central bedrock, some of whom have been pushing for Uhuru - Raila union and hinting at a looming alliance.
However, the reports of Uhuru-Raila union have been dismissed by National Assembly Minority Leader John Mbadi who says that the rallies are only aimed at promoting unity and war against corruption.
Mbadi says the political meetings have nothing to do with the 2022 elections.
“Our position is clear that 2022 is still far and cannot be part of our agenda at the moment,” the MP told the Standard.
It has emerged that the first rally was held in Kisumu on Saturday, one also used to bring back ODM members who had moved out for various reasons.
So far, both Uhuru and Raila have supported the said referendum, with Uhuru calling for an all-inclusive system while Raila wants a parliamentary system of governance.
