He is the front-runner in what is quickly turning out to become one of Kenya's closely contested races of all time.

In his bid to sway ODM leader Raila Odinga's Nyanza political base, the DP has of late been making forays in the region that has remained loyal to Raila over the last two decades.

While it may not be simple to just be easy to lure Nyanza region into the Jubilee formation, the DP is a man on a mission but, will he succeed where others failed?

According to the Standard, Ruto recently held a secret meeting in Kisumu- the epicentre of Nyanza politics, and where locals have been voting for Raila to the last man.

On Friday, he was in Migori County, a key Raila stronghold that can, however, be vulnerable to intense political lobbying owing to its cosmopolitan nature.

In Migori, Ruto's biggest priority is to lure the minority Kuria community. With slightly over 70,000 registered voters, the tribe may play a big role in 2022 politics that will see the DP not leave the border county empty-handed.

Is Ruto's mission possible or is he just over-ambitious? Well, time will tell.
