At least four people were critically injured among them an MCA who tried to shield the Bungoma senator and Mr. Kibunguchy, who was then addressing mourners.

Two guards attached to Kibunguchy and his Tongaren counterpart Eseli Simiyu were also among the victims.

"I condemn the violence that has rocked the funeral of Kibunguchy bodyguard at kiminini. 4 innocent mourners including an MCA shot by police.

"The MCA who was shot is Wafula Mulipuko of Kabumboi ward Kwanza constituency. Eseli and Kibunguchy's bodyguards also shot/wounded," confirmed Wetangula.

Kibunguchy's driver was shot in August 12 with the MP claiming that it was an attempt to eliminate him.

Earlier, there were conflicting reports with some indicating that those who shot at victims were gangsters masquerading as police officers.

With some reports confirming that they were police officers trying to quell chaos, it's however unclear why they aimed at the leaders who were addressing residents by then.
