This was after the politician who has been questioning and opposing the entire BBI issue on Saturday made a u-turn, throwing his full weight behind the report.

This was met with criticism and mockery from lawyer and analyst Brian Weke, who questioned the sudden change of heart, suggesting that it could be out of external influence.

Weke, also a former Makadara MP hopeful, pointed out that being an ally of Deputy President William Ruto, Mutura could be just dancing to the DP's tune, especially now that all his allies are supporting the report.

"What we don't understand is how the dog he has been insulting and accusing of biting his child has suddenly been baptized. It is possible they have been summoned and directed to agree to everything in the document (Kitu hatuelewi ni eti ile mbwa ambayo amekuwa akitusi na kusema imeuma mtoto wake sasa imebatizwa. Hawa sasa wameshaitwa wakaambiwa haya; kubalini kila kitu)," he said.

His remarks were echoed by fellow panellist and political commentator Ruth Amboko during an interview on Radio Jambo, also attended by Mutura.

In his defence, Mutura said that he has decided to support the suggestions for the sake of Kenyans. He added that the report addresses the issues he considers vital, hence his backing.

"The BBI sought to unite Kenyans. Also, the things I have been advocating for; like the introduction of the opposition leader position has been included. Therefore, let the report be speedily approved, we endorse it (BBI ilikuwa ya kushikanisha wakenya. Pia, vitu nimekuwa nikiadvocate kama opposition leader nimeona zimewekwa pale. Hii ripoti ipitishwe mbio, tumekubaliana nayo)," he said.

Mutura served in parliament between 2013 and 2017, under The National Alliance (TNA) party ticket.
