President Uhuru Kenyatta has been urged to pick the next National Treasury Cabinet Secretary from the Western region.
The leaders have said it is high time Uhuru, who is completing his second and final term in office considered them for the docket after the sacking of Rashid Echesa from the Sports docket.
Led by Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala, the politicians reminded their colleagues from the region not to continue walking with Deputy President William Ruto when they have nothing to smile about.
Navakholo MP Emmanuel Wangwe has also pointed an accusing finger Uhuru for picking Ukur Yatani as the acting National Treasury CS yet the region needed someone to represent it.
“We have seen some Cabinet Secretaries gather in hotels to discuss their issues but for us, we have no one to represent us in those meetings,” said Wangwe.
Malala challenged Wangwe and the Chief Whip Benjamin Washiali to rethink about their association with DP Ruto.
Malala said that so far, the leaders from the region have not benefitted from their closeness with Ruto, who is considered one of the frontrunners in the race for the presidency, yet they want to sell his agenda in the region.
He further said that the leaders spend a lot of their time with DP Ruto, adding that it is now time they asked him about the plans he has for the region even as he seeks to succeed President Uhuru.
Ruto is banking on the Western region to ascend to power in 2022.
