Political analyst Dennis Anyonka has questioned Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen's lamentations over the cancellation of the Kimwarer Dam construction.
President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday cancelled the project whose construction has since turned into a scandal, after a proposal by a committee he had deployed to check its viability.
This was succeeded by complaints from the Senate Majority Leader, who has questioned Uhuru's move, claiming that he is being misled by forces surrounding him.
Weighing-in on the same on Monday, Anyonka wondered why the senator, being part of the government, has been unable not to intervene and us complaining like the rest of Kenyans.
He recalled instances where Murkomen, a close ally of Deputy President William Ruto has bragged of being in government, therefore questioning his lamentations.
"He has severally claimed to be in government, so why complain over government decisions? (Mara mingi amesema yeye ni serikali, mbona sasa analalamikia maamuzi ya serikali?)," he posed.
The commentator who doubles up as a lawyer made the remarks on Radio Maisha's Bunge La Maisha on Monday.
He observed that the complains are now coming out politically, and the senator is most likely not trying to represent Elgeyo Marakwet residents on whose land the dam was to be brought up.
According to the commentator, Murkomen is trying to suggest that this is another attempt to harass supporters of Ruto, ahead of his 2022 presidential bid.
"Murkomen is just politicking, he is representing the Deputy President's interests (Murkomen anapiga tu siasa, anasimamia interest that Deputy President)," he added.
Uhuru, however, spared the Arror dam in the same county, but slashed its budget by half, with the tender of both dams having been allocated to bankrupt Italian form CMC Di Ravenna.
