Machakos Deputy Governor Engineer Francis Maliti has affirmed to Machakos residents that the locusts menace will be controlled in the area.
Maliti in a Facebook post on Tuesday said that the efforts by the government to spray and kill the insects with chemicals were bearing fruits.
"The desert locusts have been wreaking havoc on farms and grazing fields in different parts of the country. The spraying exercise is quite effective so far and we want to assure the residents that the insects will be fully controlled," he noted, in part of his Facebook post.
The aerial spraying of the desert locusts which invaded some parts Machakos county early last week is already ongoing in Kivaa ward, Masinga sub-county.
The insects which are said to have invaded Kenya possibly from Somalia and Ethiopia have badly destroyed food farms and grazing fields around the country.
Before shifting to Machakos county, the swarms had affected Kitui county (Mwingi), Embu, Murang'a, Wajir, Mandera, Marsabit among other North Eastern areas.
