A section of Jubilee legislators has protested against the arrest of Malindi Member of Parliament Aisha Jumwa over the chaos that erupted in Ganda Ward in Malindi leading to the death of one person.
The lawmakers have accused the police of applying double standards in the fight against electoral violence.
The 21 legislators questioned why no action has been taken against Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leaders after Jubilee candidate McDonald Mariga's convoy was pelted with stones in Kibra constituency,
The lawmakers accused the police of being biased, adding that it is high time the officers thought of handling cases with the same level of seriousness they deserve.
They lamented that ODM leaders are still walking scot-free following the Kibra incident and even after making inflammatory remarks.
“On Sunday, we were targeted by some goons while inside a church. What is worrying is that since then no one was arrested, even after some MPs were openly heard during a rally calling on attacks to be meted on us,” said Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichungwa, as quoted by the Standard.
Jumwa was released on a Sh500,000 cash bail after spending the night in the police cells. The outspoken MP has maintained that she is innocent pending the hearing and determination of her case.
