The Migori county boss appeared before High Court Judge, Justice Jessie Lesiit to face charges of aiding to kill his seven month pregnant girlfriend Sharon Otieno, of Rongo University in Homa Bay county.

The governor however pleaded not guilty before the Milimani court on Monday, prompting Justice Lesiit to remand him.

Obado's lawyers, Cliff Ombeta and Nicholas Ombija had asked the Court to detain their client at the Gigiri police station pending hearing of his request to be freed on bond, on Tuesday at 2pm.

However, led by Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Jacob Ondari and Tom Imbali, the Office of the DPP opposed Obado's bail application saying he should be remanded upto Wednesday, September 26.

Obado who was arrested and detained on Friday, allegedly planned and murdered Sharon alongside other people who were not in court, at Owade area in Rachuonyo between September 3 and 4, 2018.

If found guilty, Obado risks being fined Sh10 million or face one-year in jail.
